Q: I regularly run our office meetings, yet can’t seem to get everyone to participate or even seem interested, whether they are in person or online. How do I turn this around and make sure everyone is getting something out of the meeting?

Nothing is as draining during a meeting as a disengaged group.

Including interactive elements to the meeting is the antidote to boredom and screen fatigue. Here are simple ways to increase meeting engagement:

    • Interactive tools every 20–30 minutes keeps the energy alive. Live polling increases attention and participation, and games & gamification turns learning into a challenge.
    • Breakout bursts with 5-minute small-group discussions with clear prompts. Dyads ensure everyone’s voice is heard, while small group discussions allow deeper exploration without being overwhelming and encourage safe contributions. (Bonus Tip: be sure to rotate the group spokesperson when sharing with the larger crowd)
    • Movement moments using stretch and stand exercises. Gallery walks add energy & movement. Skill practice rounds accelerate learning retention through repeated application.
    • Scenarios make learning real through practice in breakouts. Role playing builds empathy and improves skill application in real scenarios. Case study discussions deepen problem-solving and critical thinking.
    • Visual variety helps maintain momentum and interest. Slideswhiteboards, and annotation tools break up monotony.
    • Communication exercises help participants engage at a deeper level. Quick writes strengthen memory through retrieval practice, facilitated debates simulate analytical thinking and respectful dialogue, and story circles encourage personal connection and a variety of perspectives.

Let us know which ones you choose!
